OS X is nice and all, but Gentoo is "<3", and in my terms, "<3" is more than just "nice". So, having a desktop machine with a crappy perfomance (including long compilation times), I decided to get the "G" onto my Mac.

There are several resources on Gentoo and Apple Computers, basically two pages from the Gentoo Wiki and Odi’s guide.

But none of them cover the installation on an external hard drive, which is the way I'd like to install Gentoo.

So, in the next few days I hope to get it quite working and I will share my "wisdom" with y'all just in case somebody tries to do the same thing...

UPDATE: wtf? Apple's legacy boot code isn't working with external drives. Nothing you can do against it. So, project postponed. Sorry!

Tja, jetz is Leopard da. Also „da“ im Sinne von „es ist verfügbar“, aber leider nich bei mir daheim.

Apple erwartet doch allen ernstens, dass man als Schüler 115,— € für die Edu-Version berappt...
Zum Vergleich: Tiger kostete gerüchteweise 89,— €.

Bei Resellern soll man angeblich mehr Prozente bekommen:
Ein Apple-Händler aus dem Norden will nach wie vor die ca. 90 €, aber 11€ für die Nachnahme.
Wenn jetz noch mein lokaler Apple-Händler (C. in WÜ.) da nachziehen würde, wäre ich dodal froh!

Nachtrag: Problem gelöst. Hoffentlich ists auf Lager! ;)
